Yoga Classes

Restful, Beginner, and Intermediate Yoga

Restful Yoga is about self-observation through the enjoyment and practice of yoga.  Self-observation is using meditative awareness for recognizing, releasing, and removing stress so that the student leaves the class feeling restful and rejuvenated and then takes what he learns in class into his daily life.  This class is excellent for beginner yoga students, people dealing with stress, and senior citizens.

Stress is a major cause of our illnesses because it causes our body to get out of balance. Balance is what all of God's creation is striving for. Not only are we humans striving for balance in our daily life, our body is striving for balance in order to stay healthy as it is meant to be.

For our body to find its natural balance, our energy, our blood, and our breath must be able to freely flow through our body. In yoga we call this energy "prana," or "the life force." In Chinese it is called "chi." Wherever there are tensions in our body, this life force is blocked and cannot freely flow, causing our bodies to get out of balance.

In Restful Yoga the student works at his/her own level to work out these areas in the body that are tight and tense. While the instructor leads the class through relaxing exercises, deep breathing (breathing is the essence of the practice), and easy-to-learn stretches (asanas), the student will enjoy finding his natural balance at his own pace.  After having completed the Beginner's Yoga class the student is invited to take the Intermediate Yoga class.

Power (Ashtanga) Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga, or Power Yoga, is a routine of asanas that develops physical and mental stamina using the breath as the bridge between the body and mind. Ashtanga yoga is a faster paced style of yoga and the postures are little more advanced.  Using the deep breathing (ujjayi) and flowing from one asana to another are the main differences between Power Yoga and other yoga styles.  This class is for the yoga student who wants a more challenging yoga practice.

YogaBall

This yoga class is done with a burst-resistant ball that is the correct size for the student.  In YogaBall the students use their breath, and awareness, while stretching (practicing yoga asanas) using the ball.  The ball gives the student an opportunity to move in ways and to places that one cannot do without the ball, while improving one's balance.

Then we go into a series of poses, holding the stretch and pushing further, to the limit of YOUR ability. We finish with a long relaxing closing so you feel refreshed and ready to enjoy today!

Children's Yoga

Why Yoga for Children?

bullet

Yoga is an ideal way for children to learn how to keep their body fit for life. It is best to learn yoga when young!

bullet

Yoga is stretching, as a child's body naturally wants to do.  Children come into the world as natural yogis. Their joints are pliable and their muscles are flexible.  Yoga gives children the opportunity to explore their natural flexibility and encourages them to stay flexible.

bullet

Our society is becoming more and more sedentary, making it difficult for some children to get the exercise they need.  Yoga is a great way for children to become stronger and healthier through natural and functional physical movement using their own body weight.

bullet

Today, with the fast pace of life, family schedules, lots of activities, and the pressures of competition, children are under a lot of stress.  Yoga counteracts that stress and gives children tools to cope.

bullet

All children can do yoga because they work at their own level.

bullet

Yoga can be done without any equipment.

bullet

In yoga, there is no competition.  Everyone can be successful!

bullet

Children love to do yoga because they can do it so easily and it's so much fun.

Some of the benefits of yoga for children

bullet

Improve their strength, flexibility, coordination, and posture

bullet

Learn to relax and concentrate (great for testing and stressful times)

bullet

bullet

Have better self esteem and self respect

Pilates

Pilates is a system of stretching and strengthening exercises developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. The Pilates philosophy focuses on training the mind and body to work together toward the goal of overall fitness. It was designed to work the deepest muscles in the body, creating a strong core without the pain associated with conventional exercises. The muscles are stretched while being strengthened so there is no tearing of muscles. There is no impact on the joints and the number of repetitions is low so the muscles are not pushed to exhaustion. Pilates Presentations available!

Some of the benefits of Pilates include:

bullet

Improved posture and alignment

bullet

Reduced stress and fatigue

bullet

Muscle balance

bullet

Improved body awareness

bullet

Improved strength and flexibility of the back reducing or preventing back pain

bullet

Overall improved strength, endurance, flexibility and joint mobility
