“Delsarte System of Expression”

a master class with Joe Williams of Juilliard

Tuesday, April 15, 6:45 –8:45 pm

Cost $20

"No lover of joy, wonder, movement or unity should miss out on this wonderful event!"-William Brashear – Cincinnati Yoga School

A rare chance for actors, dancers and students of holistic movement to explore first hand the body language study that gave birth to the modern theater, Modern dance, the Alexander Technique, and the Dalcroze method of music study. See why the method is being revived today for use in all the performing arts, yoga and animation. The Three Pillars approach joyfully shows how every gesture, dance step, or yoga position has universal meaning in it.  Work with the meaning, and you give life to everything the body does!

Delsarte; the re-discovered body/mind/spirit study of human movement and expression, born 150 years ahead of its time and lost after being reduced by Victorian culture to a melodramatic mockery of its power.

Considered the world's leading authority in Delsarte, Joe Williams is internationally recognized for rediscovering the validity of Delsarte for the modern theater. He is on the movement faculty for the Dalcroze Institute at Juilliard, where students of theater, music and dance from around the world learn his Three Pillars approach to Delsarte. His students have been seen in performances ranging from international ballet tours to Middle Eastern dance and burlesque.  His master classes are always received with excited acclaim by artists, and very often with surprise, that Delsarte's work is relevant and powerful.

What is Reiki? Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and always creates a beneficial effect.

New Class

Class: Yin Yoga Class
Day: Tuesdays (the class will not meet on April 15 due to the Delsarte)

Time: 6:45 –8pm
Instructors: John Williams and Leslie Laird

Cost: $5 /class
Class description:

As part of the Yoga Teacher Training the students have learned Yin Yoga, and would like to offer a practice class to anyone interested.

Slow, gentle yin yoga complements other more dynamic (yang) yoga practices in uniting body and mind.

Yin Yoga combines slow, gentle breathing with passive relaxation to deeply stretch and gradually release tension, pain and toxins from the muscles, tendons and connective tissues. Yin yoga concentrates on opening the spine and major joints. Yin postures are held for 2 to 5 minutes, to concentrate on releasing connective tissues in targeted areas.
